On holiday in Marling at the Hotel Oberwirt

Merano lies at your feet

What a blessing it is to cast your eyes over the expanse that is the Etschtal valley and to enjoy the feeling of being "above it all" during your holiday in Marling.

High above Merano lies our hotel in Marling, surrounded by orchards and vineyards. The Trauttmanschen Gardens, the racecourse, the kurhaus, ancient cultural landscapes - all the beauty of the Merano region lies at your feet and in the background the peaks of the Texel mountain range tower above us, capped in white.

A perfect 30 minute walk takes you to the town to stroll through the Laubengängen shopping area or take in the cultural delights. Or use the public transport and take the bus which goes from Marling to Merano every half hour.

300 sunshine days per year and 600 hectares of orchards and much, much more vines

Nature begins to wake up early in the year here. It's a magnificent spectacle of nature when the apple blossoms suffuse the slopes in a rosé-white. In autumn the the swollen grapes seem to glisten blue between the colourful leaves. And for us it means it's harvest time - in Marling alone there's a yearly apple harvest of over 50,000 tonnes! It's therefore no surprise that Marling is represented every year at the Merano Harvest Festival with a float, the Marling Apple Crown, including innumerable amounts of apples (and carnations) ...

We also have our own orchards and cultivate wine on the slopes above Marling and in Merano Freiberg.

The rooms and suites combine elegant living with South Tyrolean comfort.

A pleasant hike along the longest irrigation channel in South Tyrol, the Waalweg, during your holiday in Marling

The charming village of Marling, with its 2,500 inhabitants, is an attraction for many hikers as the Waalweg trail, the longest irrigation channel in South Tyrol, follows an ancient watercourse. It runs almost horizontally across the steep slopes so it is suitable for everyone - and the fantastic views are a constant companion. For those who like it a bit more challenging, they can take the fitness trail.

Discover traces from the past - during your holiday in Marling

Incidentally, the oldest building in Marling is the old vicarage building which was built in 1166. Those interested in culture really should not miss the parish church of the Assumption. The 47-metre high Romanesque tower and the neo-Gothic chapel date back to the 13th century. Inside you will find valuable frescos from 1400. A poem about the "bells of Marling" was put to music by no-one less than Franz Liszt.

Lebenberg Castle, the wonderful castle which towers above Marling, was built in 1240 and is one of the most magnificent castles in the Burggrafenamt region and was built by the Lords of Marling. Today it is privately owned but parts of it are open to visitors.
