With his own Haflinger stud, Sepp Waldner has fulfilled a childhood dream. Even as a little boy he was fascinated by the light-haired horses, whose manes and tails are bright white, which are as much part of South Tyrol as the majestic mountains and the meadows. And it's right here that they develop their special qualities best - in the mountainous terrain they become extremely sure-footed and reliable.
Refined by breeding, the original Haflinger came from the mating of a noble Arab stallion with a powerful South Tyrolean mountain horse. The Haflinger is slender and displays very elegant movements.
Dedication and expertise has yielded a Haflinger breeding farm of which Sepp Waldner is proud of and one which has raised the standards in South Tyrol and has been recognised with international awards and top rankings. The stallion Antinor, who as a three year old took 5th place in the Haflinger World Exhibition in 1995, is a legend today with his 20 years. And recently (2012), the Haflinger stallion "Noend" was runner-up in the international stallion show in Merano.
The Haflingers are trained by experienced professionals for their versatility as sport and leisure horses - for example as sulky and and carriage horses, equestrian horses and Wild West horses.
The rooms and suites combine elegant living with South Tyrolean comfort.

Give away convenient feel-good stays and great wellness applications to those dearest to you at the Romantik Hotel Oberwirt.
In 1990 Sepp Waldner acquired a rundown farm in Graun, high aboe lake Reschen. Located at above 1,550 metres, he developed it into a model farm, the Hirschhof. Two years later the first filly moved in. Today a large herd of Haflinger mares and fillies live in the well-kept stables and many of them have won awards. The stallions are housed at the Baslan Stallion Farm in Tscherms near Merano.
Sepp Waldner is always happy to take you to his stallion paradise at Lake Reschen or to the stallion farm in Tscherms and present you personally with his noble horses. An excursion to the stallion farm with a drink along the way is part of the many inclusive services in the Oberwirt's weekly program.
If you would like to combine your holiday at the Oberwirt with some riding lessons or some riding along trails, we can recommend the right stables for you. For lovers of Haflingers, an excursion to Hafling is a special highlight.
You can therefore enrich your riding holiday in Merano with all the amenities of our gourmet hotel, with excellent cuisine and the joys of wellness. And even though we are not one of South Tyrol's riding hotels, we can still ensure that horse lovers and connoisseurs can interact with horses: with the boss himself and of course with other guests.
From the romantic Hotel Oberwirt, located above Merano, we have fantastic views over the famous race track in Merano. And if you book the Tower suite, you'll have the most exclusive seats possible ...
